Quick Fixes for Hotels

  1. Chipped or cracked porcelain. This repair should be taken care of as soon as discovered. Sand the damaged area with 600 grit or finer sand paper, then rise with just water, let dry and use either Nick Fix for small jobs or Porcelain/Fiberglass repair kit for the larger jobs.
  2. Texture ceiling repair. If there is a hole or dent in the wallboard repair it with a good Spackle paste. Then to match the texture of the ceiling Splatter use either water based or oil based aerosol splatter or knock down spray.
  3. Soap mold. This can be tough, but if you have discolored caulking around your tub, try scrubbing with a rag soaked in a good cleaner, such as CLR, then rinse with water. It may still be necessary to recaulk.
  4. Loose locks. If you have locks that are always coming lose here is a cheap fast fix. Remove one screw and ‘paint’ the threads with clear nail polish then reinstall, follow up with all the other screws.
  5. Stripped wood (screws will not hold). Use a small piece of hard wood such as a golf tee or a part of a clothespin, apply some wood glue and tap the wood into the enlarged hole then re-install the screw.
  6. Faucet and shower stems leaking down the shaft. Use Teflon tape or string under the packing nut and on the threads. This is a fast inexpensive repair that will last for years.
  7. Emergency pinhole leak in a copper pipe or fitting. Use a pipe repair clamp about $ 2.50. This will hold for up to 4 weeks. Thus saving you from having to call out a plumber after hours or on a weekend.
  8. Lamp Socket loose? A loose lamp socket especially by the bed is a shock hazard and a potential liability problem. One quick fix is to use a small amount of silicone sealant where the shell goes into the base. Please make sure the lamp is unplugged before making any repairs.
