Immigration enforcement seems to be one of the biggest hot-button
political topics these days no matter where you are in our country.
Under President Obama and Secretary of Homeland Security Janet
Napolitano, U.S. immigration enforcement has shifted its attention from
deporting unauthorized employees to auditing employers. This often
results in audits as well as criminal charges against employers and
management for knowingly hiring unauthorized workers or harboring
undocumented workers.
Aside from the national debate, state legislatures are either
implementing or debating laws of their own that would seriously impact
the illegal immigrant population is almost all of our communities.
Whether you are familiar with debates and protests in states besides
your own, knowing the law in your home state is critical to your
liability as a small business owner.
To address this need for our members, AAHOA now provides immigration
resources to educate our members on their obligations to these new laws
and requirements.
