Last week, AAHOA Treasurer Bharat Patel, Florida Regional Director Rahul Patel, Danny Gaekwad, Aakash Patel, and Eric Reinarman, AAHOA Policy Counsel and Director of State and Local Government Affairs, met with legislators from the Florida Senate and House of Representatives to advocate for laws and policies that will benefit AAHOA Members in the state.
AAHOA representatives met with Sens. Kathleen Passidomo, Wilt Simpson, Ed Hooper, and Ben Albritton, as well as Reps. Paul Renner, Bobby Payne, Will Robinson, Traci Koster, Clay Yarborough, and Tom Leek.
The AAHOA team’s primary message? Leveling the playing field with short-term rentals. Rahul and Bharat made AAHOA’s voice heard loud and clear: Short-term rental owners and the platforms that support them should abide by the same laws as hotels and every other business. They must register their businesses with the state, pay taxes, follow all applicable laws and regulations, and remove illegal listings.
With insurance premiums skyrocketing, another topic of discussion with legislators was property insurance reform.
AAHOA Members now own an astounding 65 percent of all hotels in the state of Florida, so our voices must resonate strongly at the state and local levels. The AAHOA Team is working every day to level the playing field for hotels as we continue to recover from the pandemic.
Thank you for all you do for AAHOA!
