The White House and K-Pop Supergroup BTS Discuss Asian Inclusion and Anti-Asian Hate Crimes

| Jun 03, 2022

AAHOA joined many Americans in celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May. During this month-long celebration, the White House brought awareness to Asian inclusion and addressed anti-Asian hate crimes. There has been increased violence attacking Asian communities and businesses over the last two years, leaving people frustrated and scared. President Biden invited K-Pop International Superstars BTS to shine more light on this issue at a daily press briefing earlier this week. "We were devastated by the recent surge of hate crimes, including Asian American hate crimes. To put a stop to this and support the cause, we'd like to take this opportunity to voice ourselves once again," BTS said. "We are here today thanks to our army -- our fans worldwide -- who have different nationalities and cultures and use different languages." Between March 19, 2020, and December 31, 2021, the advocacy organization STOP AAPI Hate received more than 10,000 anti-Asian violent incidents. President Biden signed a bipartisan bill last year to address these violent acts against the Asian-American community. AAHOA has long represented the interests of Asian Americans in hospitality, and we thank President Biden and organizations across the country working hard to support the safety of the AAPI community.
